A cheese and A mouse
One more person resigned today from my 10 member team.. he is 17th member to resign in last 30 months.. Itz dsk who likes to keep the count.. and when he tells me the counts , I calculate * 50 rupees.. that is the contribution I gave for the gifts to the people who left for their own good and will probably never meet again.. And yes, I have to start the induction training all over again .... But, that is not the reason that makes me write a blog.. I have been seeing people leave .. been observing them and always think , what makes a mouse go away from the cheese ..
Is that the smell of new cheese or coz the one he has on his plate stinks ?
It is a loss for every company when a knowledgable employee leaves , they have to hire a new person , train them - utilizing other team member's time .. bear with his learning period and all .. but if we invest 25% of it in the needs of people who want to leave.. take my word at least 25% of them will stay back...
Take the bet .. but I know it is not that easy ... If other people see things are taken care of , they may start blackmailing on resignation .. will they ?
Take case of Mr. MoneyMaker , who was 2nd person to leave from our team.. Technically good, knew our project pretty well .. He was getting 4.5 lacs p.a. here , always restless when some of his friends share their salaries with him .. I dont know how come every friend of him had a salary more than him.. but somehow , he bagged a job offer of 6 lacs p.a. .. resigned.. When manager asked him what can be done - he was pretty honest to tell , give me salary matching with this figure, I ll stay on.. .. I thought they might do it .. it was worth and in the same project, they were paying 6 lpa to another person of same skills .. but he was told - appraisals are already done , mid year salary hike is not possible .. what they can give him would just be an award .. whooa .. he left .. now , cycle of new recruitment started - they got resumes from agency that charges 2 months salary and hired a person offering him a salary of 6.5 lacs p.a. ... mann .. what kind of calculation is this ...
please explain me, this poor chap , why is this logical.. common, you just now spent 6.5 lacs p.a. + 1 lacs ( hiring agency fees ) to replace a knowledgable person ( demanding 6 lacs to stay on ), by a person who needs at least 3 months to know what needs to be done in this project !!!!!
Is this only because we are scared that it might set a trend ??
